Overview
 
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to support and optimize field operations for a civil construction firm working across utilities, excavation, and municipal infrastructure projects in the Vancouver Lower Mainland. This is a leadership role responsible for safety, field performance, materials, traffic control, and equipment management.

Must Haves
  • 8+ years of experience in civil utility construction including trenching, shoring, and utility installation
  • Valid BC driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Proven ability to lead and support field operations, including mentoring crews, managing site performance, and driving continuous improvement across multiple civil construction projects
  • Deep understanding of OH&S regulations, safe work procedures, and the ability to implement and audit comprehensive safety programs including COR certification and return-to-work initiatives
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with experience managing vendors, budgets, inventory, and collaborating with internal teams, engineers, and external stakeholders
 
Nice to Haves
  • Skilled in equipment procurement, vendor management, and yard inventory control, including audits and material tracking
  • Working knowledge of traffic control logistics, signage compliance, and fleet/dispatch coordination
  • Experienced in developing training, mentorship, onboarding, and performance review programs
  • Proficient in incident investigation, field reporting, and conducting internal safety audits including COR certification support
 
Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day operational leadership to field staff and support departments
  • Oversee and audit safety programs, training compliance, and SWP adherence
  • Manage return-to-work cases and liaise with HR and supervision as needed
  • Lead incident investigations and internal/external safety reporting
  • Identify field skill gaps and implement appropriate training or process adjustments
  • Support Superintendents and Forepersons in adopting best practices
  • Drive continuous improvement in field production, safety, and work quality
  • Oversee procurement and inventory of equipment, tools, and materials
  • Maintain relationships with vendors, rental companies, and suppliers
  • Ensure sites are organized, clean, and compliant with safety and security standards
  • Track, verify, and submit invoices and audits related to materials and equipment
  • Oversee the traffic control division, ensuring staff and signage meet standards
  • Support dispatch and equipment logistics, including vacation relief coverage
  • Manage outfitting and onboarding for new hires
  • Attend weekly forecast meetings and submit required documentation
  • Collaborate closely with project management and field teams to support execution
  • Other related tasks as assigned
