OVERVIEW

Reporting to the laboratory operations manager, the laboratory operations coordinator will assist the supervisor and manager to support the daily functioning of the lab, overseeing staff, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards, maintaining equipment and supplies, and coordinating testing activities.  The coordinator will assist in monitoring the quality of laboratory testing by observing the highest standards of accuracy, efficiency and safety according to established procedures and policies (IQMH Standards). The coordinator maintains open communication with the Director, Operations/Quality Manager and Supervisor of Laboratory Medicine, staff and leadership in other departments and nursing areas. The coordinator maintains and updates procedure manuals, training material and continuous quality improvements in the pre-analytical laboratory area as required. The position shall provide technical support, training and orientation to the laboratory technicians and RPNs to ensure adherence to the above standards. The coordinator acts as a quality resource and leader for the department of laboratory medicine.

EDUCATION

-  Graduate of a Medical Laboratory Assistant program
OR
-  Active registration with the CMLTO (General MLT)
-  Degree or Advanced certification or equivalent preferred


QUALIFICATIONS

-  Minimum five years clinical experience in laboratory, preferred, with demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge in problem solving and troubleshooting 
-  Ability to communicate and function under pressure
-  Good attendance and work record required
-  Supervisory experience an asset.
-  LIS knowledge/expertise an asset
-  Experience with regulatory standards and quality programs.
-  Experience with Lean methodology, quality improvement and risk management, an asset.  
-  Demonstrate interest in continuing personal and professional growth.
-  Mature responsible judgment.
-  Excellent Ability to communicate clearly, teach, problem solve and organize.
-  Self-motivated with the ability to guide and motivate staff
-  Ability to lead work well in cooperation with co-workers and other departments.
-  Flexibility and willingness to work as part of team.
