About GBE Energy
Founded in 2013, GBE is an energy trading firm specializing in the electricity markets of North America. Our expertise lies at the intersection of fundamental analysis and risk management. With offices in Calgary and Metro Vancouver, our team has decades of collective market experience, consistently delivering positive returns by navigating the most dynamic and volatile commodity in the world.

The electricity grid — the most complicated machine ever created by humankind — is in constant flux. Today is no different: increased electrification continues to power our collective future. As transportation, industrial processes, and computing demand ever more power, the work is simple but demanding: in this domain of constant change, find value where others haven’t.

The Opportunity
This is a hands-on role focused on internal accounting, finance support, and operations. It’s ideal for a recent graduate with a business or accounting degree who is ready to take ownership in a fast-paced, professional environment.

You’ll handle the accounting fundamentals that keep the business running while also gaining exposure to the operational side of a trading firm — supporting leadership, managing logistics, and learning how the business operates day to day. You’ll be working alongside senior decision-makers and touching multiple facets of the firm.

Learning and growth opportunities are limited only by your ambition and drive.

What You’ll Do
Accounting & Finance
  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping (AP, AR, reconciliations, expense tracking).
  • Prepare and code invoices, receipts, and payments accurately.
  • Perform daily trade reconciliations to ensure accuracy between internal records and counterparty statements.
  • Maintain organized financial records for compliance and audit readiness.
  • Support monthly close processes in collaboration with external accountants.
Operations & Administration
  • Oversee day-to-day office operations in Calgary (supplies, vendor coordination, workspace setup)
  • Coordinate with building management, IT providers, and service vendors.
  • Support onboarding (workspace setup, documentation, account creation).
  • Assist leadership with scheduling, calendar coordination, and occasional travel booking.
  • Help with internal communications and team event planning.
  • Provide remote support to the White Rock office (ordering, scheduling, vendor contact).

Who You Are
  • A recent business or accounting graduate with strong academic performance and internship or co-op experience.
  • Meticulous with numbers, comfortable reconciling details, and able to spot errors quickly.
  • Organized, proactive, and entrepreneurial — you keep things moving without being asked.
  • A clear, professional communicator who enjoys being the go-to person others rely on.
  • Hungry to learn, ambitious, and ready to take ownership early in your career.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Internship or 1–3 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or finance support.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and QuickBooks (or equivalent).
  • Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities independently.
  • Bonus: background in trading, finance, or professional services environments.
  • Bonus: familiarity with ChatGPT and Notion.

What We’re Offering
GBE has successfully navigated shifts such as the transition from coal to gas-fired electricity, increased weather volatility, the rise and market penetration of wind, solar, and battery technologies, and the evolving demand patterns driven by data centers and electric vehicles. You’ll learn not only about current market dynamics, but also how our team has successfully navigated past transitions — lessons that remain critical as the grid continues to evolve.

This is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully in a professional, focused, and supportive work environment. You’ll have real ownership in your role, with the ability to shape how things are run. You’ll also be surrounded by ambitious, hard-working individuals — both early in their careers and seasoned in the industry.

Work Environment
This is a primarily in-person role based at our Calgary office. We're a collaborative, hands-on team, and your presence is key to keeping things running smoothly. That said, we understand the value of flexibility and are open to occasional work-from-home days where appropriate.

How to Apply
Submit your resume and a brief cover letter explaining your qualifications and what you would bring to the role. Typos and authenticity are preferable to lazy AI prompts.

GBE Energy is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and inclusion in our hiring.
